This can be quite confusing at times. When looking at ball mounts, it is important that you buy the correct class of ball mount. The ball mount needs to match for the class of hitch you have. Some important things to remember...
When it comes to towing, one of the most important things to remember is this: Your tow vehicle, receiver hitch, ball mount (also called the drawbar) and hitch ball all have maximum weight limits they can safely tow. You cannot safely tow more than the lowest rated weight capacity of any of these individual parts!
Hitch class refers to the weight capacity a towing component can handle. There are basically 5 hitch classes. Read about the Hitch Classes in our Learning Center.
